What is the point of the reed valves on the cylinder head covers (on my Gen 8)?

I can't see any reason for their existence.
    Thanks.

To burn off the extra fumes from the crankcase.

Search" PAIR delete "if you want to remove the PAIR system. There is a block off plate made by a member here

If Gen 9 ever is created, maybe they will ask the same question about VTEC... yo.

They already decided DCLBS was extraneous.

OK, now that I know what the system is called, I have looked into it. I understand the benefit of injecting oxygen into the exhaust pipes to burn off excess gas, but Is there really a way for air from the teed valves to get from the camshaft area to the exhaust? How, exactly? I didn't realize that any gas has passed through that area at all. I thought it was totally closed off.

It looks like the system takes air from the airbox, but why would they have the unit be part of the cylinder head cover and a block off plate installed when it's removed?

Does the reed block connect to the exhaust port? I never messed with mine so can't say

To clarify, the PAIR system is a passive flow of air from the airbox when the solenoid opens (on decel). The air travels through the reed valves (one way, to prevent back flow of exhaust gasses) into the exhaust ports, post combustion. Nothing goes through the valve train area at all. The air helps ignite unburned gasses in the exhaust, thus you may or may not hear popping (with the stock exhaust). The block-off plates just prevent that flow of air, reed valves now just become nothing but gaskets for the plates.

Think there's been some confusion in mixing the PCV system with the PAIR system, they are two very different systems.

Yes, sorry for the confusion from my first post.

I think my brain was still in 1gen mode. And was definitely thinking of the pcv system on that generation
