Just wondering what makes slip ons so special that I'm looking to spent at least 3 or 400 clams to replace mine? I mean if there is something I'm missing great otherwise I feel it's just ridiculous. Please enlighten me.
save a few lbs:minimal, sounds better: fickle? more horsepower: eh, a few just by doing exhaust. increase air flow for use w/ pc3/pcv/etc, why i replaced mine.
I hear ya. It's weird that nice performance mufflers for my mustang are cheaper than mufflers for my bike.
I rigged up an R1 pipe on mine. I just have the exhaust running through the left side because it's easier. I got them for free from the dealer that replaced the cans on a new one on the floor. A lot lighter than stock, more flow, and a better sound. It may look a little janky if inspected closely, but I can't justify spending that much on something that's not a necessity for me.
What ya get in an aftermarket can (s) is a quick install and fit and a neat appearance. Plus it's motorcycle stuff and labels count bigtime for bragging rights. Try different sources for less expensive cans. OTOH they do last. Name brand on my 91, on there since day one.
Your paying for a name and may be a better/different look. The stock cans on my 07 actually had very good flow but I gutted them for the sound. Its fairly easy to tune the pipe inside for the sound you want. The most weight savings and flow increase would be from removing the cat.
