Same here. Nothing yet. But hopefully my rear tire has arrived and that will get mounted. Pulled the rear wheel off yesterday and gave it a really good cleaning with a decent rim cleaner. Makes the world of difference on these white wheels. I would do the front as well except the rotors need to be removed to give them a good cleaning and I just don't feel like that right now.

I still have some ceramic coating for automobiles that works well at repelling water and therefore dirt. Maybe I will give that a try on the rear wheel. Very simple to apply. Maybe I should just get them re powder coated charcoal grey.

After November and December weather that for the most part was 10*F colder than normal, I took advantage of the almost 15* above normal temps by washing my '98,

    January 5 2019.jpg

then I took it for a ride, not having any route in mind other than trying to avoid the road salt residue.

    20190105_164817.jpg

I ended up pulling into the Riders Discount wearhouse parking lot.

    20190105_161158.jpg

While there I ran into the owner, and we talked at length, and I tried to find a pair of boots that fit both my style and my feet, to no avail.
I was tempted with this, and have started a new forum if you are interested.

All in all, a great January day!

The other day I replaced my FH020AA RR on my 5 gen with a Sh847. The plan is to put the Fh020AA on the 6 Gen along with the Shorai battery I got last weekend. I also replaced the chain and sprockets on the 6 Gen, with a JT Sprockets-DID chain kit from Sprocket Center. Although the sprockets looked OK, the chain was definitely in need of replacement. Tight in some spots and loose in others, the kit was a welcomed replacement. Tomorrow I'll be getting to the RR installation along with a set of Oxford heated grips. Even though it usually doesn't get too cold in So Cal, it has been in the mid 30's F and low 4o's F in the mornings when I head out on the road, I think with the gloves I have, the heated grips should work well.

I also bought the Shorai charger that has the multi-pin charging cable. The charger has a 'store' and a 'charge' mode. When I work from home, the bike usually just sits, so now I can keep it in store mode when it has to sit for a while.

Well, today I got to my 6 Gen RR installation. I took the FH020AA from the 5 Gen and installed it on the 6 Gen. I started about 10AM but then went to have lunch and a couple of pints at the pub with VFRWorld member Hammerdrill. That took 4 hours out of my day. Then I went back to it for a few minutes, then had dinner and then back to it after dinner. I was able to wrap up the RR install just a little past 7PM. I was planning on doing the heated grip installation too but with the "slacker" time I took, I'm had to put that on hold until later. I did pre-wire the main lead of the control unit to the front left side of the bike, so now it should be real easy to get the grips and controller wired up. All RR, wiring, connectors and mounting hardware were purchased from www.roadstercycle.com.

It's a lot more difficult and less effective than buying heated gloves!

Actually, not a lot of work, at least IMO and I'm really not a fan of the electric glove offerings from the electric gear manufacturers. I have good quality winter gloves that work well but could use that little bit of added warmth. I do have electric glove liners for a different pair of gloves that I like but prefer the other gloves much more.

My main issue with heated grips is they only heat the palm of your hand, and it's the wind side of your hand that gets cold. I recently bought a pair of Joe Rocket Burner gloves that come with their own rechargable lithium battery, so they don't require other electric gear and wiring. They last 4 hours on the low setting, which so far, has been plently warm. And since I have 2 bikes (and have been known to sell and trade them every couple years ), I'm not constantly installing heated grips.

Think I’ll have both the gloves and the grips.
Rather have all bases covered since I’ll be in CO.

Haven't done much to my bike for a while, if I'm honest. The wife and I are in the throes of getting ready to do a small amount of travelling, and then move into our new (to us at least) house in sunny coastal Queensland.

Thing is, that house has the obligatory attached double garage...and a large (8m x7m) shed out the back.

That particular shed will be getting the full man-cave treatment...and then, the VFR will be getting the full "refurb" treatment.

In preparation, I've procured the following:

    1) 2000-model engine, supposedly with ~67,000kms on it (~half of what the current engine does). That will be compression/leak-down tested in the near future to verify it's internal condition).

    2) Injectors from that engine have been pulled, shipped off and tested/ultrasonically cleaned, sealed and returned to me.

    3) New AS3 silicon hoses and clamps to suit.

    4) New thermostat and O-rings (from Partzilla)

    5) New iridium plugs

More bits and pieces to follow. I may even get myself a set of the headers being discussed on VFRD (and here presumably), to "replace" the ceramic-coated '99 headers on the bike currently.

Should be a good project to keep me occupied for a bit...

Agree. I've had two bikes with heated grips and they're very much over-rated. GOOD winter gloves are not over-rated....

Got the heated grips installed, as I said, got my preferred gloves which do well but wanted a little something extra. Don't know if/when I'll get to try them out but the install was simple enough.
